Follow the Casting Directors Timka Grin, Cassandra Han, Ewa Brodzka and Paulina Krajnik at their panel discussion "How a Casting Director Reads a Script," hosted by Filmmakers Europe www.filmmakers.eu as part of Warsaw Film Festival www.wff.pl and Warsaw Next in cooperation with the Kieślowski Film School and the Polish Casting Directors Guild (PCDG).
The panellists will elaborate how Casting Directors approach and interpret scripts, offering insights into the creative aspects of their craft. From working with renowned directors to collaboration on international coproductions, the panel is set to cover the art and the method of casting in the world of cinema, shining light on the pivotal role Casting Directors play in bringing stories to life on the big screen.
Attendance is free. No Warsaw Film Festival accreditation needed.
About the panellists:
Timka Grin's career spans over 50 feature films, shorts, and TV series, many of which have received prestigious awards. Her unique insights into the casting process have been honed through collaborations with renowned directors such as the Dardenne brothers, Jean-Luc Godard, Danis Tanovic, and many others. Timka also serves as the President of the International Casting Directors Association (ICDA) and as a member of both the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and the European Film Academy (EFA).
Cassandra Han. American Casting Director based in Europe since 2003, boasts an impressive portfolio of work, including credits for upcoming projects like "A TRILLION DOLLARS" and "MISS FALLACI" for Paramount+. Her contributions extend across international borders, including Italy, where she played a pivotal role in casting for acclaimed films like "FORD VS FERRARI" and "A HIDDEN LIFE." As the President of the European Board of Governors of the Casting Society of America (CSA) and a board member of International Casting Directors Association (ICDA).
Ewa Brodzka's passion for casting has driven her to create memorable casts for over 60 feature films and fictional series. Her casting expertise has played a significant role in representing Polish Cinema at numerous film festivals. As the President of the Polish Casting Director's Guild (PSDG) and a member of the International Casting Directors Association (ICDA), Ewa is committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of Casting Directors in Poland and beyond. Her work on "Katyń," an Oscar-nominated film, and her numerous collaborations with Andrzej Wajda have solidified her reputation as a casting luminary.
Paulina Krajnik has been working as Casting Director with recognized directors - Agnieszka Holland („1983" Netflix series, „Green Border") or Jerzy Skolimowski („EO" - Oscars 2023 International Feature Nominee and Jury Prize at Cannes FF 2022), but main number of productions in her credits are awarded and critically-acclaimed first feature films such as: „Girl from a Wardrobe" 2012, dir. Bodo Kox, „Nina" 2018, dir. Olga Chajdas, „The Getaway King" 2021, dir. Mateusz Rakowicz, „Prime Time" 2021, dir. Jakub Piątek (Sundance Film Festival, Main Competition 2021) and „Other People" 2021, dir. Aleksandra Terpińska (EFA European Discovery - Prix Fipresci 2022). She is co-founder and a board member of the Polish Casting Dorectors Guild (PCDG) and member of the Casting Society of America (CSA). Recently Paulina has been welcomed in the European Film Academy.
